Milan all year, Olbia in season, and a long tail of small fields

Italy is a country where the record is much bigger than the board. We have recorded 479 empty legs touching Italy since the end of July, more than France, and yet only 50 are still upcoming: the summer traffic to Olbia, Sardinia and the islands has largely flown. 32 of the 50 leave an Italian airport and 25 arrive at one, 7 fly inside the country, and 16 carry a published price.
Milan is on 11 legs and stays busy all year. Olbia is on 8, Venice on 6, Bologna on 4, and then a long tail: Brindisi, Cagliari, Florence, Grosseto, Catania, Genoa, Perugia, Treviso, two or three legs each. No corridor repeats more than twice. Nice to Milan runs both ways at two each, and Milan to Brussels at two.
The fleet is light: CJ4 Gen 2 on 7, XLS on 5, CJ2+ on 4, with a Praetor 600 on 3 and a Legacy 650 on 2 for the longer runs. Across the 10 legs priced in euros the median aircraft is 5,200 and the median seat 589. Four legs priced in pounds, from British operators flying in, sit at a median of 12,450 for the aircraft.

An empty leg is a flight a charter operator has to make anyway, to position an aircraft for a booking or to bring it home afterwards, sold at a discount because the alternative is flying it empty. The operator sets the route, the date and the aircraft. You fit into a flight that already exists, and it is one way: there is no return leg and no such thing as a return seat.
Everything on this page comes from Italian legs that operators published on their own websites. We read those sites several times a day and record each leg exactly as listed, route, date, aircraft, seats and the operator's own price where they gave one. We do not read brokers, we take no commission and enquiries go straight to the operator. A leg counts for Italy when either end resolves to a Italian airport, first by the airport code the operator gave and then by the city name, so a leg written as an airport name still lands in the right country.
