Van Nuys is in the San Fernando Valley, inside the city of Los Angeles, and it is one of the busiest general aviation airports anywhere. It handles no scheduled airlines, which is why almost all of its traffic is charter, private and repositioning, and why the empty leg flights off it are frequent.
The board shows one corridor above all others: Las Vegas, nineteen times in four weeks, which is more than the next four partners combined. After that it is the Bay Area, Oakland and San Francisco, and Los Cabos in Mexico. The Vegas run is a forty-five minute flight, and empty legs on it appear constantly.
Los Angeles traffic makes the airport choice matter more here than almost anywhere. Van Nuys is quick for the Valley and the west side, and slow for anywhere south of downtown.

Between 31 July and 27 August 2026 we recorded 42 empty leg flights touching Van Nuys: 18 departing, 24 arriving, across 13 partner airports. The airports that came up most were Las Vegas (19), Oakland (4), San Francisco (4), San José del Cabo (4). 16 different aircraft types appeared, most often the Citation Longitude (6), the Learjet 60XR (5), the Gulfstream G450 (5).
Nineteen of the forty-two were Las Vegas, more than the next four destinations put together. Los Angeles and Las Vegas are effectively one market with a desert in between.
