1Why an empty leg is always one way
An empty leg is a positioning flight: the aircraft is going from where its last client left it to where its next client is, or back to base. The operator sells the empty cabin on that sector. Once the aircraft lands, it is doing what it was always going to do next, which is not waiting to bring you home. That is why the price is low, and it is also why there is no return.
So a one way private jet flight is not a stripped down product. It is the product. Everything on our board, all 1,097 upcoming legs when we read it in September 2026, is one way.
2How often a return actually exists. We counted.
The question people really ask is whether an opposite leg will turn up on the right day. We checked every upcoming leg on the board against every other one. 48 of 1,097 have a leg going the other way on the same day. 104 have one inside the next three days. 208 have one inside a week, and 273 inside a fortnight.
So roughly one leg in five has some kind of opposite within a week, and those are not returns in any booking sense: they are separate flights, often from a different operator, that can be sold or withdrawn on their own. The honest way to read the board is that a return is a bonus if it lines up, never a plan.
3What to do if you need to come back
Fly out on the empty leg and come back on a scheduled airline. The empty leg usually carries the group at a fraction of a charter, and a business class return fare is a known quantity. Six hundred euros is a business class fare to somewhere unremarkable; it is also, on our board, a median seat on a Citation.
Or watch for a second empty leg. Set a route alert in both directions. Close to half of the legs we record appear inside the final week before departure, so the one you want is more likely to be published a few days out than to be visible today. On corridors that repeat, Cape Town and Johannesburg, Toronto and Teterboro, Wevelgem and the Riviera, the odds are better than the board average.
Or accept the one way and price the whole trip. For a group of six or eight, one empty leg plus scheduled seats home is often still cheaper than two scheduled itineraries in the same cabin class, and the outbound is a private jet.
4What a one way private jet costs
Where the operator publishes a price it is for the whole aircraft, one way. Across the legs priced in euros on our board the median works out at 780 euros a seat, divided by the seats the operator listed, and the lowest at 261. Can you book a private jet one way?
Yes, and an empty leg is exactly that: a one way private jet flight the operator has to make anyway, sold at a discount. Every one of the 1,097 upcoming legs on our board is one way.
Are there cheap private jet return flights?
Not as a product. An empty leg has no return. On our board only 208 of 1,097 upcoming legs have any flight listed in the opposite direction within a week, and those are separate flights that sell on their own. The usual answer is an empty leg out and a scheduled flight back.
How do I find an empty leg back?
Set a route alert in both directions. Close to half of the legs we record are published inside the final week before departure, so the opposite leg, if it comes, comes late.
