Why this route produces empty legs

Monterey Peninsula (KMRY) is the field for Carmel, Pebble Beach and Big Sur, a short runway to a small and wealthy catchment with far more demand to arrive than to depart. Las Vegas is one of the largest pools of available charter aircraft in the western United States.

The result is a steady one way flow. An aircraft finishes a job in Las Vegas, is wanted on the Monterey Peninsula, and the positioning flight west is empty. All five legs we have on record came from one operator, Thrive Aviation.

Every leg on this corridor was a Cessna Citation: a Longitude, a CJ3+ twice and a Sovereign+ twice. That is a narrower spread of aircraft than the Las Vegas board shows as a whole, where we have recorded eight different types on the Las Vegas to Van Nuys corridor alone.

Both directions, up to 20 flights, with the price exactly as the operator published it.

When they show up

At short notice, mostly. Four of the five legs went on the board between three and twelve days before departure. Only the 23 October leg was listed further out, fifty six days ahead. If you want this route you are watching for it rather than booking it in advance.

The airports on this route

Monterey has a short runway and sits on the coast, so fog is a genuine operational factor from late spring through summer. Ask the operator what the alternate is before you commit to a tight schedule at the far end.

Every leg we have on record for this route

Between 31 July and 1 September 2026 we recorded 5 empty legs from Las Vegas to Monterey. None of them carried a published price: every operator on this corridor lists it on request. This is a record, not availability. These are the legs we saw on this corridor in that window, kept so the route has a history you can judge it by. None of them is bookable from this table. What is actually open right now is the live list above, and if it is empty the route alert is the way to catch the next one.

Before you book

The price on a card is the operator's figure for the whole aircraft. What that comes to per seat, across every type we see, is in how much an empty leg private jet costs.

No operator on this corridor publishes a price. All five legs we have recorded say price on request, so the figure comes from the operator when you ask and we show nothing rather than guess.

No operator here published a flight time either, so the block figure on this page is worked from the great circle distance rather than taken from a listing. Ask the operator three things: whether the departure time can still move, what happens if the paid flight that created this empty leg falls through, and what the plan is if Monterey is below minimums.
