Why this route produces empty legs

At about 1,055 nautical miles this is the longest of the four Scottsdale corridors we publish, more than three times the Van Nuys sector and nearly five times the Las Vegas one. It is also the only one that crosses an international border.

Scottsdale is the fifth busiest origin in our record, 218 listings to 81 destinations, behind Las Vegas, Teterboro, Miami and Toronto. Calgary is its third most frequent destination, behind Las Vegas at 19 movements and Van Nuys at eight.

Five of the seven movements below are two Canadian registered Cessna Citation Excels, C-FKHJ and C-FIAP, flown by Air Partners. Air Partners departs Calgary on 22 of its 61 listings in our record, more than from anywhere else, which is consistent with aircraft heading home rather than aircraft heading to work, and that is the pattern that produces the empty seat.

Coming into Calgary the corridor is a modest one: 139 arrival listings from 38 origins, with Vancouver at 23 movements, Regina at 14 and Kelowna at 12 well ahead of Scottsdale at six. Palm Springs, the other Arizona and California desert origin in our record, sits just above it at eight.

When they show up

Seven movements between 6 October and 27 November 2026. Five of them fall inside seventeen days in October, two of those on 6 October alone, and then a pair on the same day in late November.

Notice here is long and the far end is longer. Both 27 November legs were in our record by 11 September, eleven weeks ahead, and the 6 October pair by 11 September as well. The shortest notice on the corridor is the 7 October Citation Excel at 13 days. Nothing on this route has appeared inside a week, which makes it one of the few corridors on the site where checking the page a month out is actually useful.

The route on a map

Approximate corridor between Scottsdale and Calgary. Operators fly the sector direct; the airports each listing uses are shown on the flight itself.

The airports on this route

Both ends of this route are unambiguous in our record: every listing gives KSDL to CYYC and no alternative field appears at either end. What is not unambiguous is the border. This is an international sector, so ask the operator where the aircraft clears customs, what documents the passengers need and whether the quoted block time includes the ground time that goes with it. On a sector this long the flight is the journey, but the paperwork is the part people forget.

This is a record, not availability. These are the legs we have recorded on this corridor, read when you opened this page, kept so the route has a history you can judge it by. None of them is bookable from this table. What is actually open right now is the live list above, and if it is empty the route alert is the way to catch the next one.

Scottsdale to Calgary in the record

Every leg we have recorded between Scottsdale and Calgary, in either direction, since 30 July 2026, whether it is still on the board or not. A leg leaves the board when the operator stops publishing it, and we cannot tell from outside whether it was sold or withdrawn, so these are counts of what was listed, not of what flew.

Legs by departure month

One bar per calendar month, from the first month in our record to the furthest date an operator has published so far. Grey bars are months already past, gold is this month and the months ahead. A blank month is a month we have no record for, and before August 2026 that means we were not yet recording. The months ahead hold only what operators have published up to now, and most empty legs appear days or weeks before departure, so those bars will keep growing. The shape says how far ahead operators publish, not how busy a month will be.

Each row is a pair of airports as the operator named them, in the direction flown. Both directions of the corridor are counted. An operator that names only the city leaves us the city, which is why some rows are city names.

Before you book

The price on a card is the operator's figure for the whole aircraft. What that comes to per seat, across every type we see, is in how much an empty leg private jet costs.

No operator on this corridor publishes a price. All seven movements say price on request, so the figure comes from the operator when you ask and we show nothing rather than guess.

That is the operators rather than the route. Air Partners publishes no price on any of its 61 listings in our record, though it does publish a tail number and a block time on every single one. Jet OUT publishes no price, no tail number and no block time on any of its 1,326 listings, and every one of them is a Citation CJ4.

What you can check instead is the aircraft. Five of the seven are Cessna Citation Excels at eight or nine seats, all listed at two hours 54 minutes. The exception is the Cessna Citation X on 27 November, tail C-FWRX, nine seats, listed at two hours 30 minutes: 24 minutes quicker over the same ground for the same published cabin size.

Two aircraft are listed on 6 October, both Citation Excels but different airframes, C-FKHJ at eight seats and C-FIAP at nine. On a corridor this size that is worth knowing, because it means the date is not one flight with two listings but two aircraft going the same way on the same day.

Ask the operator whether the departure time can still move, what happens if the paid flight that created this empty leg falls through, and which Calgary terminal you are cleared into.
