Why this route produces empty legs

Teterboro to Charleston is about 555 nautical miles, listed at between one hour 36 and one hour 54 on the legs that publish a block time. It is the New York to Lowcountry run, and on our board it is a one way street.

Teterboro is the single biggest source of recorded arrivals into Charleston International, at seven of the 47 it takes from 26 origins. Nothing else comes close in a city that otherwise draws from all over the eastern seaboard. Teterboro sends 329 recorded movements to 106 destinations and Charleston International is eighth of them at seven, with three more landing at Charleston Executive, so ten Teterboro departures go to the city in total.

Charleston back to Teterboro is five recorded legs against these ten, four from the international field and one from Charleston Executive. The imbalance is the whole reason this corridor produces empty legs: aircraft take people south for golf, weddings and the spring season and have to come home, and the ones that do not have a paying return are what end up on this page.

Every aircraft on this corridor is a large cabin jet. Nine to fourteen seats on all ten legs, with a Gulfstream G550 at the top and a Bombardier Challenger 605 at the bottom. There is no light jet and no midsize here at all, which is rare on a 555 nautical mile sector and tells you what kind of trip the paid outbound leg was.

When they show up

Ten movements on ten dates, but not evenly. Seven of the ten fall inside twelve days, 26 September to 6 October 2026: four consecutive days of a Hera Flight Gulfstream G-IVSP, then three consecutive days of a Northeastern Aviation Challenger 605. That is two aircraft sitting on the corridor rather than ten independent repositions, and it is the honest weakness of this page.

Outside that block the corridor is slow: one leg on 8 September, one on 25 October and one on 3 April 2027. Three were still on the board when this page was built. Notice has mostly been short, with eight of the ten first seen on the day of departure or the day before, while the two Aircraft Services Group legs were listed 19 days and six months ahead.

The airports on this route

This is the one question to settle on this route. Seven legs land at Charleston International and three at Charleston Executive, and they are about fourteen miles apart on opposite sides of the city. International is the bigger field, shared with the air force base and with airline traffic, while Executive is general aviation only and sits about seven miles from the historic district against International's eleven. Ask which one before you agree anything, because the drive to the historic district is not the same from both. Charleston back to Teterboro is five recorded legs and does not yet have a page.

This is a record, not availability. These are the legs we have recorded on this corridor, read when you opened this page, kept so the route has a history you can judge it by. None of them is bookable from this table. What is actually open right now is the live list above, and if it is empty the route alert is the way to catch the next one.

Teterboro to Charleston in the record

Every leg we have recorded between Teterboro and Charleston, in either direction, since 30 July 2026, whether it is still on the board or not. A leg leaves the board when the operator stops publishing it, and we cannot tell from outside whether it was sold or withdrawn, so these are counts of what was listed, not of what flew.

Legs by departure month

One bar per calendar month, from the first month in our record to the furthest date an operator has published so far. Grey bars are months already past, gold is this month and the months ahead. A blank month is a month we have no record for, and before August 2026 that means we were not yet recording. The months ahead hold only what operators have published up to now, and most empty legs appear days or weeks before departure, so those bars will keep growing. The shape says how far ahead operators publish, not how busy a month will be.

Each row is a pair of airports as the operator named them, in the direction flown. Both directions of the corridor are counted. An operator that names only the city leaves us the city, which is why some rows are city names.

Before you book

The price on a card is the operator's figure for the whole aircraft. What that comes to per seat, across every type we see, is in how much an empty leg private jet costs.

Not one of the ten legs carries a published price, and that is a property of the four operators rather than of the route. Executive Fliteways has published a figure on none of its 194 recorded movements, Hera Flight on none of its 358 and Northeastern Aviation on none of its 302. Aircraft Services Group has published three prices across 238 movements, and none of the three is on this corridor. That is 1,092 listings between them and three prices.

So there is nothing about this corridor to compare and nothing to negotiate against. The figure comes from the operator when you ask, and we show nothing rather than guess at it.

What the operators do publish is useful on its own. All ten legs name an aircraft type and a seat count, and eight of the ten give a block time. Aircraft Services Group publishes a tail number on both of its legs, N224LD on the Legacy 600 and N408LS on the Falcon 2000EX EASy, and it is the only operator here that does: Executive Fliteways, Hera Flight and Northeastern Aviation publish no tail numbers anywhere in our record.

Ask the operator which Charleston field you are landing at, whether the departure time can still move, and what happens if the paid flight that created this empty leg falls through. Any figure you are quoted is for the whole aircraft, never per seat and never a from price.
