Why this route produces empty legs

Toronto is the one city that sends aircraft to Sault Ste Marie with any regularity. Five of the ten arrivals we have recorded into Sault Ste Marie came from Toronto; the other five came from Kelowna, Kitchener, Montreal and Peterborough, one leg each. The sector is 265 nautical miles.

From Toronto's side this is a minor route. Toronto is a large board for us, eighty one departures to forty different destinations, and Sault Ste Marie takes five of them. So the corridor is most of what Sault Ste Marie receives and a small part of what Toronto sends.

One operator, two aircraft types, no exceptions. Chartright Air Group lists all five legs here and all six going the other way, and no second operator appears on this corridor in either direction in our record. Four of the five legs are a Cessna Citation Ultra with seven seats and the fifth is a Bombardier Challenger 300 with nine.

Northbound is the dearer and slower direction on the operator's own figures. The Citation Ultra is CAD 6,000 going up against CAD 4,600 coming down, and the Challenger 300 is CAD 9,500 up against CAD 7,800 down. Published block times follow: 1 hour 6 minutes up against 1 hour down on the Citation Ultra, and 54 minutes up against 48 minutes down on the Challenger 300.

Both directions, up to 20 flights, with the price exactly as the operator published it.

When they show up

In ones, never in bunches. The five legs run from 19 August to 2 October 2026 and no two share a date. Two have already flown and three are still on the board.

Notice splits cleanly in two. The three nearest legs went on the board three, four and seven days ahead of departure. The two October legs both entered our record on 28 August, thirty four and thirty five days ahead, listed on the same day as a pair.

The airports on this route

All five listings name Toronto Pearson and Sault Ste Marie Airport, so the computed distance on this page uses the pair the operators themselves use. Seats are seven on the four Cessna Citation Ultra legs and nine on the single Bombardier Challenger 300.

This is a record, not availability. These are the legs we have recorded on this corridor, read when you opened this page, kept so the route has a history you can judge it by. None of them is bookable from this table. What is actually open right now is the live list above, and if it is empty the route alert is the way to catch the next one.

Toronto to Sault Ste Marie in the record

Every leg we have recorded between Toronto and Sault Ste Marie, in either direction, since 30 July 2026, whether it is still on the board or not. A leg leaves the board when the operator stops publishing it, and we cannot tell from outside whether it was sold or withdrawn, so these are counts of what was listed, not of what flew.

Legs by departure month

One bar per calendar month, from the first month in our record to the furthest date an operator has published so far. Grey bars are months already past, gold is this month and the months ahead. A blank month is a month we have no record for, and before August 2026 that means we were not yet recording. The months ahead hold only what operators have published up to now, and most empty legs appear days or weeks before departure, so those bars will keep growing. The shape says how far ahead operators publish, not how busy a month will be.

Each row is a pair of airports as the operator named them, in the direction flown. Both directions of the corridor are counted. An operator that names only the city leaves us the city, which is why some rows are city names.

Before you book

The price on a card is the operator's figure for the whole aircraft. What that comes to per seat, across every type we see, is in how much an empty leg private jet costs.

Four of the five carry a published price for the whole aircraft: three Citation Ultra legs at CAD 6,000 and one Challenger 300 at CAD 9,500. The 19 August leg says price on request.

Three identical figures on one aircraft type is the operator's asking price on this sector rather than a market rate, so read CAD 6,000 as what Chartright asked on those three dates.

This is the dearer of the two directions on both types. The reverse page shows CAD 4,600 and CAD 7,800 for the same two aircraft coming south, so if your dates are open either way it is worth looking at both.

Ask the operator three things: whether the departure time can still move, what happens if the paid flight that created this empty leg falls through, and which Toronto field you are leaving from, because every leg here has used Pearson rather than the island.
