Why this route produces empty legs

Almost everything Edmonton produces in our record comes here. Edmonton International has six recorded departures in total, to two destinations, and five of the six go to Calgary. The sixth goes to Fort McMurray. That is a small board, and this corridor is very nearly all of it.

Calgary is the opposite, one of the widest arrival boards we hold. Sixty five recorded arrivals into Calgary International from thirty different origins, led by Vancouver on thirteen, Regina on seven and Kelowna on six. Edmonton is fourth of the thirty with five, ahead of Scottsdale on four.

Three operators produce the five legs and all three of them also fly the pair the other way. Air Partners listed one, Execaire Aviation two and Sunwest Aviation two. Calgary is the centre of two of those three boards rather than an occasional stop: 37 of Air Partners' 41 listings anywhere in our record touch Calgary, and 37 of Sunwest Aviation's 40. Execaire Aviation is the exception at six of 53.

The specific thing on this corridor is what Sunwest Aviation asks in each direction. Its Bombardier Learjet 45XR, tail C-GVVZ, is listed at CAD 4,200 Edmonton to Calgary and CAD 2,900 Calgary to Edmonton, both on 15 September 2026. Its Learjet 45, tail C-GPDB, is CAD 4,200 Edmonton to Calgary on 2 December and CAD 2,900 Calgary to Edmonton on 1 December. The same aircraft, the same sector, CAD 1,300 apart depending on which way it is pointing.

When they show up

In two clusters with nothing between them. Three legs fall on 13, 14 and 15 September 2026, three consecutive days from three different operators, and the other two are 2 and 19 December. No listing on this corridor sits in the ten weeks in between.

Notice splits the same way. Measured from the day each listing entered our record to its departure, the five gave 1, 5, 6, 85 and 99 days. The two December legs were on the board from early September; the 15 September leg appeared the day before it flew, which is why the route alert is worth more here than checking the page.

The airports on this route

All five listings name both fields by ICAO code, so the computed distance on this page uses the pair the operators themselves use rather than a city centre guess. Every one of the five carries eight seats.

This is a record, not availability. These are the legs we have recorded on this corridor, read when you opened this page, kept so the route has a history you can judge it by. None of them is bookable from this table. What is actually open right now is the live list above, and if it is empty the route alert is the way to catch the next one.

Edmonton to Calgary in the record

Every leg we have recorded between Edmonton and Calgary, in either direction, since 30 July 2026, whether it is still on the board or not. A leg leaves the board when the operator stops publishing it, and we cannot tell from outside whether it was sold or withdrawn, so these are counts of what was listed, not of what flew.

Legs by departure month

One bar per calendar month, from the first month in our record to the furthest date an operator has published so far. Grey bars are months already past, gold is this month and the months ahead. A blank month is a month we have no record for, and before August 2026 that means we were not yet recording. The months ahead hold only what operators have published up to now, and most empty legs appear days or weeks before departure, so those bars will keep growing. The shape says how far ahead operators publish, not how busy a month will be.

Each row is a pair of airports as the operator named them, in the direction flown. Both directions of the corridor are counted. An operator that names only the city leaves us the city, which is why some rows are city names.

Before you book

The price on a card is the operator's figure for the whole aircraft. What that comes to per seat, across every type we see, is in how much an empty leg private jet costs.

Two of the five carry a published price and both say CAD 4,200 for the whole aircraft. The other three say price on request, so those figures come from the operator when you ask and we show nothing rather than guess.

Which three is the operators rather than a gap in our collection. Sunwest Aviation publishes a price on all 40 of its listings in our record and both priced legs here are its. Air Partners publishes none on any of its 41 and Execaire Aviation none on any of its 53.

Read the CAD 4,200 as one direction only. The same two Sunwest aircraft are listed Calgary to Edmonton at CAD 2,900, and the operator also lists the northbound sector as the shorter one, 30 minutes against 36. Ask what the figure covers before treating either as the rate for the route.

We have recorded four legs coming back from Calgary to Edmonton, below our bar for a page of its own, so there is no reverse page yet. Ask the operator three things: whether the departure time can still move, what happens if the paid flight that created this empty leg falls through, and which cabin you are actually getting, because an eight seat King Air and an eight seat Learjet are not the same aircraft.
