Why this route produces empty legs

Scottsdale to San Diego is about 270 nautical miles between Scottsdale Airport and San Diego International, and the legs that publish a block time run 54 minutes to an hour. It is a short desert to coast hop that competes with a six hour drive, which is why the aircraft on it are light and midsize rather than heavy.

Scottsdale is the second biggest source of recorded arrivals into San Diego on our board, at six, behind Las Vegas at nine. Nothing else sends San Diego more than four.

From the Scottsdale end this is a minor route, and the page says so. Scottsdale sends recorded movements to more than 30 destinations and San Diego is sixth at six legs, well behind Las Vegas at 21, Van Nuys at thirteen and Denver at eleven. Six legs in ten weeks is a thin corridor and the alert is worth more than the page.

Three operators, and two of them publish a price, which is unusual on this site. Jetvia and Pinnacle Aviation Charter both put a figure on their legs. Jet OUT, which flies three of the six, publishes nothing on any of its 1,534 recorded listings.

Recently listed on this corridor

Both directions, up to 20 flights, with the price exactly as the operator published it.

When they show up

Six movements on five dates, departing between 20 August and 3 November 2026. Two of the six left on the same day, 7 October, on two different Jetvia Learjet 60 airframes at the same published figure.

Two were still on the board when this page was built, the 14 October Jet OUT Citation CJ4 and the 3 November Pinnacle Gulfstream G280. That 14 October leg is also the one to read carefully: it was listed five times between 21 August and 6 October, four of those listings have expired and one is current. It is one flight, not five chances.

The airports on this route

Both San Diego fields are filed as San Diego in the listings and they are not the same arrival. San Diego International is about two miles from downtown. Brown Field is about fourteen miles south, down near the border, and is a very different drive to anywhere in the city. Only one of the six legs used it, but it is worth asking which one you have before you plan the ground. One count needs explaining: the table below lists ten rows for six flights. The 14 October Jet OUT leg alone accounts for five of those rows, listed and relisted between 21 August and 6 October, and it appears under two spellings of the same aircraft, Citation CJ4 and Cessna Citation CJ4, which is why the type count in the table reads one higher than the three aircraft types named on this page. The 7 October pair are two genuinely different Learjet 60 airframes on the same day.

This is a record, not availability. These are the legs we have recorded on this corridor, read when you opened this page, kept so the route has a history you can judge it by. None of them is bookable from this table. What is actually open right now is the live list above, and if it is empty the route alert is the way to catch the next one.

Scottsdale to San Diego in the record

Every leg we have recorded between Scottsdale and San Diego, in either direction, since 30 July 2026, whether it is still on the board or not. A leg leaves the board when the operator stops publishing it, and we cannot tell from outside whether it was sold or withdrawn, so these are counts of what was listed, not of what flew.

Legs by departure month

One bar per calendar month, from the first month in our record to the furthest date an operator has published so far. Grey bars are months already past, gold is this month and the months ahead. A blank month is a month we have no record for, and before August 2026 that means we were not yet recording. The months ahead hold only what operators have published up to now, and most empty legs appear days or weeks before departure, so those bars will keep growing. The shape says how far ahead operators publish, not how busy a month will be.

Each row is a pair of airports as the operator named them, in the direction flown. Both directions of the corridor are counted. An operator that names only the city leaves us the city, which is why some rows are city names.

Before you book

The price on a card is the operator's figure for the whole aircraft. What that comes to per seat, across every type we see, is in how much an empty leg private jet costs.

Three of the six legs carry a published price: two at USD 6,000 and one at USD 6,600, both figures for the whole aircraft. The two at USD 6,000 are Jetvia Learjet 60s leaving on the same day on different airframes, and the USD 6,600 is a Pinnacle Aviation Charter Gulfstream G280. On a 270 nautical mile sector that is a genuine bracket rather than a single data point.

Those two operators are worth separating. Pinnacle publishes a figure on all 80 of its recorded listings, across 41 different prices and seven aircraft types, so its number moves with the sector and the aircraft. Jetvia publishes on 1,993 of its 2,101, but its whole feed carries a single aircraft type, so its figure is one Learjet 60 operation's rate for this sector.

The other three legs publish nothing, and all three are Jet OUT. Jet OUT has published a price on none of its 1,534 recorded listings and lists only one aircraft type, a Citation CJ4, so its rows tell you a CJ4 flew and nothing about cost.

The cabin is consistent: five of the six seat eight and one seats seven. Ask the operator which San Diego field you are landing at, whether the departure time can still move, and what happens if the paid flight that created this empty leg falls through.
